The implications of climate change, environmental degradation and exploitation on international peace, security and defence

From Monday, 13 to Thursday 16 October 2025, the Hellenic Supreme Joint War College (HSJWC) and the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) organized a course titled “The implications of climate change, environmental degradation and exploitation”.

The course was held in Thessaloniki, at the multi-purpose hall of the War Museum and it was conducted in English.

Its objective was to inform the participants about the latest developments of the impacts of climate change on the environment, focused basically to its effects at the European and National Defence and Security.

Distinguished academic professors and researchers honored the course with their presence and highlighted the importance of the climate change and its impact in planning and implementation of Defence and Security policy of the European Union’s Member-States.

Twenty-three (23) Participants from Bulgaria (2), Finland (4), Germany (1), Greece (15) and Italy (1) attended the course program.

The course was successfully completed and all participants received the required certification of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC).
